A federal benchmark for safety requirements and universal emissions / tax / quality requirements as a foundation for States to then build off of is not a dumb idea. In fact, it’s the current way in which the government regulates automobiles — autonomous cars just a have a few more challenges to face.

I think tesla will be around for a very long time. Elon’s pocket gets deeper and deeper as SpaceX and SolarCity continues to do well. And tesla itself is kicking ass as well.

The American public proves its stupidity every time gas prices dip and SUV/Truck sales spike. WTF? Do they think just because gas is 20¢ cheaper a gallon for a few days, it isn’t going to go back through the roof in a week or 2?!? FFS people are stupid.

Of all the reasons to oppose national regulation, this is the stupidness one. Are you really that unaware of what’s been going on with driverless cars, from Google to Tesla? Heck, even the safest of the safe Volvo has self-driving cars, and they plan on making it a standard feature within the next few years.
