I think it's poignant (or tragic depending on how you look at it) that Louie and Ania's relationship goes quite smoothly until two women he respects (Janet and Ivanka) completely diminish it when they find out they have yet to physically "consummate" it.

GREAT catch…even MORE so to me now that my mind is just NOW realizing (after having read a few reviews/synopses) that that was supposed to be a "young" Janet. As @soverybored stated, I simply thought she was a woman Louie had been married to briefly before he met Janet.

That's realllllllllllllllly an oversimplification of what happened. Frankly, it doesn't sound like you watched the show or knew the background to this episode.
