Agreed. As a person with a professional background in digital archives the problems facing the preservation of video game history are terrifying. Without websites like Emuparadise we face the same dark age with games that we experienced for early cinema and even classical literature. Keeping art in the hands of the

I wrapped up The Last of Us Remastered last weekend (a masterpiece, of course) and this weekend I’m playing:

Good luck on the move. None of that sounds easy!!

I’ve heard reasonable complaints about the map system, but I overall enjoyed it. My one minor gripe is effectively the same as yours - why don’t the new portions fill in AS you go rather than when you either reach a bench or perish? I suspect this was a decision made for a combination of rendering exploration more

A Resonance of Fate shoutout?! Cheers for mentioning a game that I must have aaaalmost bought on Xbox 360 no fewer then twenty times. Never quite got around to it, though, and now my poor Xbox is all packed away. I wonder if it's available anywhere in the current generation...

Oh, good call! I don't know why I didn't realize that.

Yah, I’d recommend it. I actually found it a lot less challenging than its main reference point (Dark Souls) so I think you could get through it without much suffering. Disregard that if you are considering the true endgame content though; I hear that’s tough as nails.

Oh yeah, that’s cool news about Sonic Mania Plus. I’m picking up the physical version because I love that game so much and $20 felt like a steal anyway. The surprising depth of encore mode is icing on the cake!

Good point. The visuals definitely aren’t a problem (though they do cause whiplash when alternating between it and The Last of Us). I'm actually thrilled about the performance, as I'd worried that I might be making a mistake not opting for the 60fps PS4 version; not true, as 30fps is fine for the game and you get the

Weird, I can’t even imagine what boss you’re talking about. I wonder if I missed that one! Also I totally concur, Hollow Knight is downright intoxicating.

That’s the impression I’d gotten of the game. Glad to hear my guess wasn’t far off. Might still check it out some time, of course.

I finished Hollow Knight this week at 73%. There was more to do, but I'd reached a narratively satisfying moment to take on the standard final boss. I'd also heard that the True Final Boss is a real son of a gun so I figured I'd skip it.

This weekend I’m playing...

Have played the demo? This review offers some important criticism, but I’d recommend playing the free version yourself and exploring other reviews before you decide that the game isn’t worthwhile. I gather that much of whether it's a worthwhile experience comes down to what you're looking for.

Funny enough, from his history with 16-bit and 32-bit JRPGs I'd expect Jason to have a particularly insightful take on what ways this game works and doesn't. Much as I love other outlets, I'm more inclined to value Jason's take on this one.

Agreed. Some of Jason’s concerns don’t line up with mine (the plots not intertwining and character interactions straining suspicion of disbelief don’t faze me) but other ones do: the fact that the stories are repetitive, the grinding needed to advance, and the unimaginative dungeon design in particular.

Reminds me of the people who say offensive stuff and then remind you that they're 'just kidding, can't you take a joke' when they get called out. Humor is not an excuse for harassment.

You're suggesting that folks who want to craft a more inclusive environment should disappear and cede the online landscape to trolls?

Jackson’s pieces have an authorial voice and make no claims to some imagined objectivity. I’m glad to see her contributing to the voices calling this punk what he is.

That’s only a double-standard if you consider the substance of the comments to be equally valid. A reasonable person would conclude that racism is to be respected less than feminism, as the latter is good and the former is bad, so the latter should be supported while the former is punished. If a person is saying that
