Just because I could afford one doesn’t mean I want to buy one. I’d prefer not to have to buy a new phone and repurchase/relearn all the various apps I use on it just to buy a particular car. That is, it would have to be one hell of a car in order to get me to make that kind of disruption - I was car shopping last

This is a good take. BMW did make an excellent deal. I think Toyota did the same thing to Subaru, but ended up the winner in the 86 twins game. Or at least they came out well. I bet they thought they’d do the same here, and instead they just paid BMW loads of $$$ and engineering expense just to end up with a meh car.

It is bothersome and resonates with the “no manual, people don’t care” argument they had initially. I’m guessing AA and manual transmission are all part of the same problem with getting a Toyota badge on a BMW.

Yes they’re the same car, but Toyota would still need to update all of its internal documentation, support structure, train dealers, etc... how to use and diagnose the new software. So it’s not quite as simple as just plug n’ play. I’m sure it’ll get Android Auto support eventually.

Na, I firmly believe it is just because Toyota is too conservative. Besides them leading hybrid tech from the early 2000's until a few years ago, Toyota hasn’t really been high-tech / bleeding edge / market leaders in anything besides reliability reputation and they are hanging on to that hard. Honestly, most of their

Just let the damn thing die.

How is it not an automatic agreement that any significant software upgrades on one model of the car also be applied to the other model of the car, especially considering they’re even built on the same assembly line, where they’re mapped with the software right next to each other!

Yeah, but why would you want one of those pieces of shit?

And also, when you have money for a $50K 2 seater sport car, you can afford an iPhone.

I hear what you are saying, staying true to the slow selling originals. But the NSX and MkIV are now co sided classics for what they became, not what they initially were. Like Mozart, not appreciated in their time.

That will happen at the same time that Toyota adds more power to the GT86, which is never.

You know, some people don’t like iPhones, or Apple in general.

Yes, they both have the standard BMW inline 6.  The Supra does not have a Toyota designed engine.  In fact, nothing on the Supra was designed by Toyota except for the horrifically ugly body.

At least Honda devoted some in-house effort, successful or not, as the new NSX has dedicated chassis and a Honda engine. This new Supra falls more into the no f**ks given category.

It is a fitting attempt, though, since both the original NSX and the A80 bombed hard at the market, as well...

So therefore you must buy one even if you don’t want one?

Yeah...then again Lexus also sells an even shittier 4 cylinder base model on the RC line if that’s more your speed.

The 2021 Toyota Supra will come with a Pioneer head unity with some sick graphics and a remote control

Supra base model will have a soulless BMW 4banger. Whole car is a failure.

There was no point. It was a cynical attempt to get some nostalgia dollars for Rad era cars without even trying. A failure, just like the NSX.
