Sorry for the huge pile on but as someone who had an openly racist 1st grade teacher I can tell you from experience that it diminishes a child’s self worth and results in a near-lifetime full of self doubt. I had to be untaught that I was lesser than because of my skin color.

Long gone is the era wherein people generally minded their own goddamn business.

As a teacher, I would say that it is warranted in this case. Teachers are often held to a higher moral standard, which is utter bullshit, because we are working with children. A teacher who publicly demonstrates an obvious bias against a group of people is not fit to be an educator.

As a former teacher, I think this teacher absolutely needs to be held accountable. Her racial bias could result in unfair treatment of minority students including grading their work more harshly than the work of white students. I’ve been a victim of a teacher like this. She was physically abusive and discriminated with regards to tracking - which is everything. Luckily my parents (who are privileged financially and educationally) wised up and made sure I was tested for GT.
