Michael, one of your best articles on this site. From a white guy.

And, as a Chiefs fan I’ve been exposed to both Schottie and Ried. At least Ried’s failures haven’t been colossal in KC!
Very well said, Anne. While I did find Brandt’s statement and action inspirational, that doesn’t invalidate the righteous anger against the systemic racism and violence exemplified by Jean’s and so many others’ murders.
Michael,
Thank you, Michael, for another great Clapback. Appointment reading for me now. I am continually amazed by the horrific comments you get. Just know that you are getting through to at least some of us.
I don’t disagree that redefining the word is exactly what this guy is doing, but the definition is already problematic in the Oxford English definition’s final phrase : paraphrasing “... based on the view that his race is superior”. I’m glad Michael is moving to use the Webster definition instead.
LeBron was a surprisingly good voice actor in Smallfoot. Was pleasantly surprised to see his buy-line. Would be great to see him continue acting in some way.
“...based on the belief that one’s own race is superior” is the problematic part of the Oxford English definition. It implies that something or someone is only racist if they feel superior. This leads wypipo, my previous self included, to think, “Hey, I’m not harboring this feeling so I must not be a racist” even if…
Here’s a question worth pondering: what is the path of redemption for the racist? I didn’t vote for Little Finger(s) but know plenty who did. Does seeing the error of one’s ways and waking up to the realities of inequality in America start to wipe that label off? Or is a small government, single issue voter, who…
Michael,
I affirm all you wrote. There is just so much ignorance in white communities. If wypipo don’t personally see the effects for themselves they think racism must not be a problem. I certainly don’t think the messenger needs to be white (but perhaps it makes the message more relatable). The problem is, there is very…
Wypiparations! Love it, Michael. Your economic explanations always open my eyes. Thank you for time and effort.
I have used NextDoor in rural white America. So far, it’s been almost exclusively, “just moved to town looking for jobs/can provide these services” or “does anyone know of a service for xxx”. I feel like the app, as Michael mentions doesn’t promote racism but rather the false sense of anonymity brings out individuals’…
As a mediocre white man, I completely agree. Kamala has always been a favorite of mine for just this sort of moment. She has the ability to bob and weave in an argument and skewer her opponent. One of the most disappointing elements of the last election cycle was watching Trump leave horribly untrue, vicious comments…
I really don’t know how all the details can/should/will be worked out but I hope that HR40 passes and we can have that conversation and discussion about how to do this. We need other discussions as well. Reparations aside, how do we start reconciling issues of violent encounters with police? How do we overcome issues…
Send me my bill. I don’t own a single acre or any mules but have often been called an ass of various varieties (smart, dumb, etc.)
Hey Michael,
