I like the E46 idea, but be careful because a lot of those cars — at least around me, and I was looking — are in pretty rough shape when compared to other German coupes from the era; they a favourite of a particular type of car guy.

Get a 996! They have factory mounting points for a roof rack that could hold your bikes, and can be found in RWD and AWD flavours (if you’re worried about getting to the trailhead). They’re affordable (for a 911) and super fun to drive (and also have a little extra storage space — in that they have a trunk and

I am an intense minimalist when it comes to what I keep in my car’s cabin: I don’t want anything to flutter or rattle, and I don’t want things to go flying out of the car when I roll down the windows on the highway.

I think you’re right.

I also cross shopped with the GTI; also thought I was doing myself a solid by going with the Japanese car.

Had a ‘15 and had similar hell of things constantly going wrong. I think that car was in the shop for almost 15% of my ownership. Also, how does a car come from the factory with all those rattles? Legendary Subaru reliability, my ass.

Yes, it’s very good. It’s a tight 6-hour experience that I’ve gone back and played several times. I’ve never played its multiplayer function.

I am grateful to all the people buying badge-engineered Audis.

I definitely understand. Hell, I currently have my mechanic handling an engine rebuild because I just want to be able to ride as soon as possible. (I’d been putting it off until the coming winter, but all the little problems finally caught up!)

How accessible is the valve adjustment? On my R100 it’s as simple as removing the valve covers (which are on the sides of the bike, I’ll admit, and not on top), and then it’s loosening the bolts on the rocker arm in order to have a clearance such that your feeler gauge is held but can be slid out easily, then

Singer quote $350k on top of the 964 you have to supply. You can find Singers for sale for less than this one-off. Not saying they’re cheap, but you could get one for less than this.

Agreed. This is one of those few moments where I’m going to (not a lawyer) recommend you ignore laws about not driving with your hazards on because this is the exact situation you want maximum visibility. Also, turn your front and rear foglamps on in this situation.

I don’t disagree that the 996's interior leaves a lot to be desired w.r.t. aesthetics, but compared to the mid-teens subaru I had before, my 996 is so much quieter (rattles, they’re what make a subaru a subaru... well, that and premature engine failure) and ergonomic, with everything within an easy reach.

It was notable, for sure. I thought it was a heavy work vehicle or low-flying plane at first, then realised it sounded completely different.

I’m fine waiting. Thanks for pointing out the SE, though!

Hahah thank you; I stand corrected! What counts as navigable airspace? Is there a height below which counts as unnavigable?

Now I’m no fancy, big-city lawyer, but I think this is a pretty obvious violation of the fourth amendment.

My daily driver is a 2+2 RWD coupe that’s under 3000 lbs. It’s comfortable, engaging to drive, and I’m able to do all the maintenance myself. Until there’s something comparable out there, I’m frankly not interested in a BEV. I don’t need 500 miles of range or a 3-second 0-60: 250 miles and 5 seconds, respectively,

I’ve got an ‘01 and I’ve surprised people — who don’t know the type distinctions — who thought it was significantly younger. It’s a pretty timeless design.

So you have an immediate reference for how deep the hole should be when you arrive with the casket.
