I’m a relentless optimist, but the whole point of solidarity is that everybody doesn’t have to die in the desert. With enough people, people can run and pull each other and invent all kinds of things so that the maximum number of people make it. “Everyone will die in the desert” is ... more than a little bit defeatist.
