Did you see the play? Without having watched the film I suspect that the play works better for being able to focus on the dinner without having to create story around it.

I once sat at a table across from Leighton's and spent the duration of the meal making derogatory remarks about her in an attempt to make her angry. I got thrown out of the place for Meesterbaiting in public.

Yeah, you can fiddle with categories as much as you like but if the people deciding the winners don't do it based on merit then there seems little point.

Hollywood's shakedown of the Ecuadorian government begins.

Yeah, I agree. There are many times more programmes being made now, on all sorts of formats. There is a ton of original stuff as well, but there is always likely to be a lot of attention drawn to remakes because they create discussion almost by default.

A lot of the book/show conversation has become pretty poisonous. I feel some sympathy for Martin in that it must be difficult to cede control of your own creation the way that he has, but honestly the pace that he writes at combined with the number of side projects he takes on makes the level of that sympathy fairly

And now the show has the last pick on the waivers, too.

Ha! I know I was convinced enough to never have paid the fee.

My understanding from my student days is that the inspectors were like vampires, in that they couldn't force their way into your home even if they knew you had no license.

Definitely. And maybe with the Americans it's partly it's down to perception, as well, for me. I read and listen to Andy Greenwald, at Grantland, and he is so enthusiastic that it probably colours my view.

No, I agree. I probably expressed myself poorly; I like the effort they are making and think it's worthwhile - the Americans is great.

I like this what seems like a giant communal effort between television critics to promote the show. Nothing 'deserves' to be more watched, in the sense that people are entitled to watch what they like, but I think the number of people who would love the show is way larger than those who are currently watching it.

Ha! He'd be a good choice, thinking about it.

Just for once can this go to an English man educated at either Eton or Harrow.

Last year (I think) a horse named George Baker whose trainer was George Baker was ridden by the jockey George Baker.

Boastgusters. People arguing for the merit of one of these movies versus the other.

I think buying your own wheelbarrow to be able to say "that is a quality barrow" comes over too much like boasting.

Isn't clickbait more accurately a title without something to back it up? There was effort put into this, regardless of whether you found it interesting or not.
