It’s definitely “a bit much” considering the damn painting at the center of the controversy isn’t even going to be, and for that matter never was going to be, on display at this show.
I completely agree. Art is supposed to be controversial. That’s the whole point.
I can’t help but think banning someone for having painted a single controversial work is a bit much.
I’ve talked to my husband about this (he’s a restaurant manager) and he’s had conversations with repeat customers who didn’t tip. He asked them “are you unhappy with your service?” In some cases they started tipping, other times they never came back.
You are correct. The exception I would make is if this was a pattern of behavior by a person who is continually difficult. Then it’s standing up for employees and I support that. Anything short of that, and I like you would not patronize the establishment
This is where it gets tricky. It is posted on the restaurants instagram, not the waitresses. So, perhaps this was put up, by management in support of their waitress. Maybe there is a history with her doing this on multiple occasions and being quite demanding with what her orders are. There is no win for the restaurant…
This is a great tip - I’ll start doing it too.
I frequently tip in cash / pay on card, too, but I’ll write ‘CASH’ on the tip line and then write the total on the ‘total’ line. This is for two reasons; 1) so somebody who sees it later doesn’t think they got shafted and 2) if you just leave those spaces blank, an unethical person could write in ANYTHING there.
I learned here in the comment section to write CASH. It lets your server know that there is money there so they don’t miss it and also prevents someone from randomly accusing me of not tipping (I worked service, I never don’t tip at all).
That’s a $5.00 tip. For Kendall? That’s nothing. For the server? That’s a loaf of bread or making rent.
Yeah, working as a server and in medical billing has made me a much, much kinder person.
I’ve found that those types of people were shitty in every aspect of their lives. No job they have or had would ever change their rotten outlook on life.
I mean, assholes are going to asshole ... but I’ve had four or five interactions this week with customers who clearly had no idea how my job worked on even a basic level. And I’ve only worked four or five hours this week (because service ain’t my main gig).
Sadly I am related to somebody like this. She’s also super demanding of waitstaff, and is vehemently against raising minimum wage. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
My experience in the service industry is why I tip with cash.
I would normally agree with you, but something about a zero dollar tip from a multi-millionaire gets my goat.
This so much. In fact I find that most the past and current service industry people I know treat waitstaff worse. The rest largely treat the staff well but will complain about everything behind their back.
Maybe, but I’ve definitely encountered people who treat waitstaff like shit and follow with “I worked in the service industry so I know this person should do better”
Opinion: everyone should have to survive off of service industry jobs and wages for a year. It would make society a nicer place.
