I see millions of people buying NES & SNES classics but a few people whining about game prices.

“don’t profit” and “free” are different. and accessibility is the big driver of sales, rom sites in comparison to official storefronts are much less accessible. for instance there’s roms of all of the NES and SNES Classic games yet both of them have sold a ton. 

I’m aware games get re-released and changes are sometimes made and those new versions would have an updated list of creators. I should have said the IP owners, and archival versions are different because it’s for educational and historical purposes which would hopefully fall under not making a profit.

Can I buy a new copy that benefits the original creators/publisher? if yes, then rom is bad. if no, then rom is ok as long as you don’t profit from it.
