It’s a show about children written by adults for adults who most likely have no prior knowledge of the subject. This wasn’t written to be inaccurate on purpose, it was a poorly executed joke that can cause real harm. There’s a distinction.

Yeah, that’s the general idea of a Crisis event, but then they immediately undo it by providing inconsistent messaging about what has and hasn’t carried over to the new status quo. The only one of these that’s ever worked IMO (across both DC and Marvel) was the first Crisis, and that’s simply because they committed to

That’s not the impression the following gave: “Again, it’s pretty painfully obvious that mainline Western comics will not do what you’re talking about. You’re complaining that the steakhouse doesn’t have a vegan menu for you.”

Right, but it wouldn’t be a problem because each would be locked within its own set of continuity. No one looks at Christian Bale’s Batman and points out errors between that version and the Michael Keaton movies because they’re distinct takes. Comics need to be the same way.

Boo hoo, the big bad man is pointing out flaws in this thing I like. Why won’t he just SHUT UP?

Not sure you need to use [sic] when British people use their specialised way of spelling colourful words.  That’s really intended to mark errors that were left as-is by the publication, rather than regional variances.

I’m kind of just staring at the monitor in shock. I explicitly said they could restart with a new take after each run ends. Stop defending things out of blind loyalty.

Is there a law that says comics HAVE to run for 50+ years? It’s a bit silly to assume that the currently existing method of telling comic book stories is the only approach to the medium. There wouldn’t be a need for retcons and franchise-wide reboots every seven years if publishers would commit to limited runs from

You’re responding without reading. I said we need limited-run series. Have versions of continuity that run for five or 10 years with a set beginning, middle, and end. Start over with a new take afterwards. It’s the only way to address this sort of issue.

I think they’re doing it just to personally screw with you. There could be no other reason.

Think it’s actually slightly more than a year rather than less.  Want to say RDR2 hit at the end of October of 2018.

Isn’t this just ahegao?

Never-ending continuity is absolutely the worst aspect of Western comics. We need to have limited run series instead of things that run eternally and end up contradicting everything that came before.

No idea is original. My problem isn’t that retcons have been done before, it’s that retcons are the lazy writer’s way of adding depth. It takes effort to create new characters or storylines that change things in exciting ways while still feeling authentic to an established cast. Any fanfic writer can say “Wolverine

Just read the whole story today, and your counterexample doesn’t exactly make a strong case. “They’ve always used this hack technique!” doesn’t make it less of a hack technique. It’s always been a bad idea.

It needs to be illegal to layoff people only to replace them with new, cheaper employees.

Kind of surprised to see so many positive reactions to this storyline. Retcons are the absolute laziest way of telling a story.

Even if that was the case, Batman’s enemies would most definitely want to know who his accomplices were.  They would have figured out Dick was Robin/Nightwing within 10 minutes.  There’s no way they would have been able to still operate openly as in the DLC.

Even taking that into consideration, all of the DLC, hell even the ending, leaves a ton of plot holes. How is Jim Gordon made mayor when Bruce Wayne has been outed as Batman? How are Tim, Dick, and Barbara not behind bars? With Bruce’s identity exposed, everyone associated with him would naturally be suspected of

Batgirl’s mission was the only one that felt like a nearly fleshed out idea. The others all followed a set formula: stealth/combat/stealth (or the inverse). Considering the lack of any substantial plot revelations, I still can’t understand why any of these were made at all.
