No doubt about it, Italian, as well as German, French and Spanish trains are crappy, especially if they are local, day trains. And if you think what you experienced was bad, try taking trains in former Soviet countries - there’s a once in a lifetime experience for you that you can dine out on for years!

In my post I was referring to specifically overnight trains, not day time travel. If you’re on a short vacay and want to maximize your time in cities, then by all means, fly from location to location instead of taking a train. 

I had a laptop that conked out on me and I couldn’t figure it out. I thought for sure the fan was busted. Then, I took it to a freelance repair guy he yanked it open and noticed a big clot of cat fur. Apparently the cat likes to snooze next to the fan outlet. It’s warm and buzzy. 

Not really on point, but now that there are a plethora of cheap European airlines flying around major metropolitan cities in Europe, overnight train travel is becoming scarce.
