I’ve done the vending machine thing at work in the past. Right now I’m good on change from my good old change jar. Fortunately I stopped charging myself to do laundry in my washer at home. But I used to put the money I saved into the jar I’m now using. 

I drive a Mazda3 and I do this all the time. I can’t tell you how many stares I get from people. Some because their SUV is so large they can’t reach; the rest, because they waited in line in their own small cars. On very few occasions people will back out from behind me, move to another pump and do the same thing.
