“As one who is of Jewish descent”
What, you don’t remember that time in 1999 when bands were complaining about Napster stealing their music, so Shawn Fanning had them all sent to a concentration camp and gassed to death? It happened, bro.
I don’t normally think doing something like this is relevant, but I’ll do it here just to weigh in as someone who knows:
I have an undergraduate degree in Music Theory and Composition, and Masters degree in Jazz (emphasis in composition and arranging) and that statement is precisely what you think it is: nonsense.

Did he... just compare piracy to the fucking holocaust?
Holy shit is this for real
My favorite part is adopting the “vocal minority/trolls” line of reasoning. Discrediting the people that are unhappy is always a good way to make them happier right?
Um, yooooooooooooo. This is fucking wild.
We’ve got top men working on it....top men.
He’s going to merge a saxophone with a theremin. It’ll be as groundbreaking as the Segway.
This is a good place to remember that Jeremy Soule is the purveyor of DirectSong, an online music store with some of the worst business practices around. His excuse?
I don’t think people question that, and I also love almost all of the games you’ve listed above, but some healthy skepticism is warranted.
My god. How do you know about the velzyxtrunput?
Seems fucked up to offer a Kickstarter campaign for a relatively straightforward symphony then delay it years because you’re “developing new technology”. Sounds like horseshit.
People just need to approach it like investing, not as early access/insider type stuff. Do your homework and take your risks.
The way you wrote that makes it sound like it just happened to him. Like he just was walking and then fell into a pit of 121,000 dollars and didn’t know how to get out of it. This guy is clearly taking advantage of people. If he can finish all those projects that big name studios give him on time, and within budget,…
For me, it’s less about trust and more about being comfortable with possibility that the project might fail. I’ve seen small, one person, unproven Kickstarters succeed wildly, and I’ve seen Kickstarters backed by famous names and big companies simply crumble.
For me, Kickstarter has become all about trust. I have to see that the developer of whatever i’m backing, has actual proof that they know what they’re doing on their own. I’ve backed plenty of board games, and videogames. A few at the start of my kickstart foray failed. I haven’t made that mistake again. Everything I…
“The technology for my grand vision does not exist yet. I’ve commissioned top scientists to create new instruments based on alien technology we’ve just uncovered. I’ve been told the R&D phase will last two decades, then I’ll start composing the music, using instruments such as the Velzyxtrunput and the Ghorghdroms,…
Thanks for covering this, Jason. Backers have been left in the wind for years now. All that’s been delivered are excuses and false promises. The fact that Gloria calls people complaining “trolls” speaks volumes.
