@Purple Dave: Yeah I know most networks round the world do it.... That's why I listed the unlocked I-phones on ebay.. These are the ones that have had the carrier restrictions removed, so you can use them on any network.

Good point but this only really applies to the US, the rest of the world will just get an i-phone, on a regular 1 year contract on whatever network they want, or in extreme drop the £450 to get it on pay-go.
