No french press can compare to a good espresso machine. You're comparing a heavy burned flavor from a press against the smooth full bodied flavor from a machine.

Use WinLAME, which is a free encoder that has different encoding presets using LAME. I believe you can make custom presets also. Select a directory and it automatically transcodes your mp3s to the selected bitrate of your choice to another. Also has presets- one made for portable devices which can shrink down the file

Cutting out silences and other things when you have thousands of songs? Sounds a bit too time consuming to save only a few megs of space. 2 notes from reading 2 of the above comments- i disagree about killing the power first thing- you want to minimize the amount of liquid going into the computer. When you spill something onto your pc, you only have a few seconds to react. In your moment of panic, you may pull out the power but completely forget the

I've had wine spilled into my laptop (Do not use your open laptop as a wine coaster!)What i did was quickly turn it upside down to prevent the wine from getting to the cpu components. I also took a hair dryer and blew into the keys to evaporate the wine.
