Right. Our neighbors had keys to our house growing up, HOWEVER, they did not offer themselves as key holder when they were new to the neighborhood (and would not have if we had been new to the neighborhood), because what the fuck? "Please, give us a key! We barely know you! We promise we won't steal your stuff!"

I was going to say maybe having your neighbor's key is a regional thing (it seems odd to me, coming from the upper Midwest), but the more I think about it, the more I think it seems odd no matter what. I get that there are places where people don't lock their doors, but giving your housekey to a neighbor...hmmm....and
