Good lord, the 'fingertip test'. When I was a wee sprout, we had to get on our knees and the teacher would measure our (popular at the time) mini skirts. Of course, we weren't allowed to wear pants (and this was a public school!), so our options were rather limited. Let's just say you didn't find many maxi skirts in

As a fellow oldie, I suggest that at least it beats the alternative (but yeah, I hear you).

Get Your War On helped me survive the Bush years.

Wait, what?

Agree completely, and along this note, I can't stand all the food porn pics that some folks insist endlessly on taking and posting everywhere. PLEASE STOP TAKING PICTURES OF YOUR FUCKING MEAL. I love me some food, but if I see one more hipster with their phone out snapping away at a restaurant, I'm gonna scream.

OMG I love this response so much that if I weren't happily married, I'd marry it.

I had a friend who endlessly romanticized the notion of opening a bakery. Until she realized that you have to get up at an ungodly hour and bust your ass for little profit. Then she wanted to open a restaurant, but then realized that she wouldn't get to sleep until an ungodly hour, and you had to bust your ass just as

Please, may I join you?

Vermont.

Yes to this. I can't imagine seeking out a place to specifically order toast. It's fast! It's easy! EVEN A CHILD CAN DO IT.

You have Kennywood, which is a whole bucketload of awesome in my opinion.

I can't believe people are defending 'artisanal toast'. Seriously, but a good loaf and do it at home. NOT HARD.

Yes indeed to your article. I agree completely! I love the train scene in Spirited Away—that's my crying point. There's just something so beautiful and haunting about it.
Studio Ghibli gave us so many fabulous movies, just beautiful heartwrenching stuff. If only Americans saw more of these films and less of..well, inste

LOL that's right! I forgot about how terrible their designing was! OK, perhaps I'll give it a glance again and see if the style has grown on me. :-)

Thank you. I thought it was just me.

I loved Kill Bill, too-just ridiculous over the top mayhem—which I usually dislike, but done in an way where it pays homage and mocks the classic 70's martial arts genre at the same time (and twists it to a female perspective). Just fun. If blood and endless gore can be labeled 'fun'. :-)

HAAAAAAAAA
'Drawn Out Baby Murder' needs to be a band name.

Haaaaaa
(OMG I Spit On Your Grave—what a terribly disturbing film that was.)

"...it has humor that like you said is not based in groaning pop culture references..."

I love your rant. LOVE IT.

Quickly! Go watch Spirited Away and have your faith in optimism and sweetness restored.
