You can blame Nvidia for that, they nestle their way into the game developer’s work to ensure these games run badly on anything that’s not the very latest of Nvidia.

You could make the opposite argument, that TotalBiscuit and other GG-supporting reviewers are in fact conspiring to down-rate games they don’t politically agree with or developers they have personal vendettas against.
Considering the built-up hype I’m not surprised. It has become a franchise that both media and youtube streamers alike love to cover since it attracts a large number of views, which then leads to even more coverage. So is anyone surprised really ?
I would describe my experience of the game as ‘continuously tense’. Probably because I’m always thinking several steps ahead.
It would be very refreshing to get a Medieval RPG no magic, to have something more low-key with no spectacle attached to it.

It’s not a big leap from any other recent 4X space game though, like Star Ruler 2 or Galactic Civilizations 3. The gameplay in these kind of games is still very much the same.
I find Nvidia’s growing grip on PC gaming disturbing. It is slowly turning the PC into a console.
