When the first announced this movie it really seemed like they were crazy. Considering Detective Pikachu had been a relatively minor spin-off that had (at the time) only been released in Japan made it really hard to understand why they would go this direction.
Adapting Detective Pikachu was a brilliant move for the live-action Pokémon outing.
