Sure! You have to remember that racism doesn’t really start to comprise part of the core makeup of conservatism until Fox News enters the picture.  That panel is probably late 70's-early 80's, and at that point it’s still perfectly okay to be conservative and still not a racist.

I don’t think people actually realize how bad the “cultural quibble” was. The jock-nerd war that existed prior to about 1990 in America was just freaking awful, and probably for both sides.
