The Martian, I think, was something like lightning in a bottle — a great premise written in such a way as to make it compulsively readable. I think that’s what Weir needs, actually: a first person protagonist who is able to convey a lot of information to the reader, while also being charmingly snarky.

No, I don’t think we can all agree on that.  There have certainly been issues with the show, but the attempt at breaking away from planet-of-the-week storytelling is not one of them.

Really depends on the trailers. If it looks like more of the same, I’ll pass. If Cameron appears to be trying to do something new — T2 versus the original Terminator, basically — maybe.
