I wonder if this is the same 1.5 3 cylinder that Geely was mentioning during that whole Lynk & Co. thing last year?
With old truck transmissions, such as the SM465 4 speed (Late ‘60s to late ‘80s GM trucks), it’s pretty much a requirement. The shifters are usually extremely loose, as well as about 2 or more feet long, and even newly rebuilt ones can take a tremendous amount of force to put in gear, so slamming the gears is the only…
If you’re just looking for an engine, they’re practically worthless in junkyards, or at least around where I live. They generally go for $300 or so without a transmission, and about $600 with one.
The best would be a diesel BMW or Mercedes. Quiet, comfortable, and the engine has nice manners when idling.
About the only redeeming feature of that car is the fact that you can use the replacement air filters as performance air filters on small diesels. I have one on my Mercedes.
If you’re looking for maximum cooling system performance and reliability, I would just go with a solid fan (Speedway sells them for about $30), and lose a bit of power. You’ll move a ton more air that way.
I meant that it was a custom design of engine (stupid autocorrect) but they are probably manufactured to AMG specs as well. The QC4V may well be a BBC based block, but in that case, it would be so far modified from the original design that it would be a BBC in the same way that a Sonny’s Racing engine is a BBC- pretty…
I’m pretty sure they’ree Mercury Racing’s QC4V series, which are an entirely customer design of engine.
My truck doesn’t have a rear view camera, parking sensors, air conditioning, a cell phone connection, or even a radio that’s loud enough to hear over the engine sound on the highway. Half the time I don’t even turn on the heat in the dead of winter and just wear my coat with the windows open to keep the windshield…
“2500 miles on my new Jeep and it’s pretty much useless...”
This doesn’t look different from any other luxury sedan, except for the quilted seats. I don’t see the point of that price tag for this average of a car. For the same price, you could buy a Hellcat, a Ford Raptor, and a loaded up Chevy Cruze or something for regular driving. Alternatively, you could buy a ton of cool…
A while back, I had to change the flywheel on a 6.2 GM diesel. Went to NAPA and ordered the part. Got it a week later and put it on the engine. It wouldn’t crank. I checked the mesh between the starter gear and ring gear. It didn’t mesh up right, so I removed it and compared it to the old one. It had 168 teeth, where…
It’s hilarious how I live in the middle of a Cape Cod town full of rich people, and people couldn’t care less about my project cars, one of which is parked in front of my house on the street(The police have actually complemented me on my “awesome rides”), and Minneapolis cares so much that they go around looking for…
To fix your shift knob, just go down to Tractor Supply and get an International Harvester shift knob. It’s made of stretchy, yet firm rubber that molds around the shifter and grips it. Just press it on and you’re done.
That is actually a very good point. I never thought of that. That would get very annoying very quickly.
I agree that exhaust brakes are amazing for hills, but they don’t even begin to touch the performance (at least the ones I’ve tried) of Jake brakes on the old Detroit 2 strokes. There will definitely be Jake brakes going onto the Detroit 6V53 that’s going to take the place of the 454 in my Jimmy.
Wait... They still make single cab Ram 3500s with cloth seats and roll down windows? Is the radio non-touch screen? Is the Cummins diesel available? A totally stripped down single cab 3500 with a Cummins would be awesome!
That J20 with no drivetrain could be a good candidate for a Detroit Diesel/Eaton 10 speed swap.
I’m gay (used to think I was bi but figured out otherwise), and I have a 500hp 1978 C10, a 1984 GMC Jimmy which is going to have a 600+ HP 454 in it, and a 1987 Euro-spec Mercedes 190D Turbo (grey-market import). I guess that makes C10s, Jimmy’s with 454s, and 190D turbos gay as well.
