In some engines, it does in fact make a difference. Engines with flat tappet lifters immediately come to mind. Flat tappet lifters require an amount of ZDDP not found in most modern oils. I would never run anything but Brad Penn, Amsoil, Redline, Valvoline VR1, or the like in my 454 or 350 engines with flat tappets.

I would guess that she either over- or under-torqued the cap, causing it to separate from the body of the canister. Since the cap doesn’t actually appear broken, that would be consistent with over or under-torquing the cap, causing the plastic threads to expand and the cap to shoot off.
