You can have an opinion, but not a well-founded one. It's like having an opinion of a piece of art you saw through one of those pebbled-glass shower doors. You can express an opinion, but you won't actually know what you're talking about, because you didn't really see the art clearly.

I, again personally, have yet to find anything more worthy of my listen than a singer and their acoustic guitar sitting in my living room.

You consider quality speakers or headphone "special equipment?" That's the absolute base necessity for listening to music, otherwise you're cheating yourself. Nothing sounds great if it's played on shitty equipment.

If you're not using a good set of headphones, you're doing yourself and the album a disservice. I agree, it's more mellow that I'd like, but it's also very subtle and there are some great building harmonies that you don't get the full effect of otherwise.
