Plus, from what it sounds like, they could have made a really cool story out of the idea of these California tax haven industrial cities. I read some article about Vernon, CA and was amazed at the corruption and greed these essentially for profit cities had. TD2 tried to do way too much and just got lost.

The cast of TD S2 wasn’t the main problem. It was the writing. The story made no sense. I work in real estate and I get bored getting into the weeds of a deal, so I can imagine the viewers loved hearing about zoning and easements. Even with the murder and weird sex there was nothing to care about.

Nintendo caught lightning in a bottle with Super Metroid. Everything just aligned correctly. I read an article in Retro Gamer that they spent forever working on it, it blew up Nintendo's budget, and it just came together perfectly.

Agreed 100%. Great write up. Experiencing this for the first time as a kid who grew up with Atari, Colecovision, NES etc. I was totally blown away.
