The celebrity cameos are absolutely a bad thing. They are killing the political sketches in particular, but also the show as a whole. Not just because of the way it sucks valuable time away from developing cast members, but more importantly the way it sucks all the energy out of the political bits.

Sounds like fake news.

What are you talking about?

Is there are reason he asked other people for the money, instead of just cutting a check himself?

People as dumb as you don’t need to vote, but we let you anyway.

I know a LOT of people who paid the $30 or whatever it was to stream Mulan. And I’m not part of a group that would normally be into a movie like that. I think Disney played that rollout very smartly.

First of all, let the Obamas breathe for christ’s sake.

Your comment lays out a lot of excellent examples of why the awards CANT be “rationalized.” I mean, something as simple as the division between a drama series and a comedy series is completely impossible to do in a perfectly rational way. Is it rational to separate actors and actresses? Probably not. How do you divide

The OP did not state that only Sony lies.

No, it’s both. Fallon did a pretty accurate reproduction of Rock’s voice and mannerisms. That’s the impersonation.

Intent matters, yes.

The 30 Rock episodes that got pulled down were also parodying the offensiveness of blackface. But I feel like there wasn’t actually that much outrage over them. The network seemed to be making a preemptive move there.

But then we wouldn’t have Dr. Leo Spaceman!

I think impersonating a specific black person can be done without blackface.

Blackface is not simply the act of impersonating a black person. Black face is literally making your skin darker. I think very few people would be offended by Jimmy doing his (quite accurate) impression of Rock’s voice and mannerism, because those are qualities that are specific to Rock as an individual beyond his

No, he’s not dismissive of the TV shows, he’s dismissive of the question. He’s telling the reporter “I’m not falling for this. The only quote you’re going to get from me is ‘Black face is bad’” because he has no desire to be dragged into a public debate about it.

The Oscars require a theatrical run for eligibility (though I believe they are modifying that this year due to the pandemic). Netflix films have been nominated, provided they had at least a small theatrical run.
