Or.... They didn’t like the movie as much as you did.

We’ll have to agree to disagree, On one hand I think 3 Billboards was wonderfully timed to warn against the rise of populism and the danger of society acting out of hatred and reactionary anger.

But as he reads the letter from the sheriff he is literally and symbolically deaf to the violent revenge filled hatred raging around him. He thinks killing this presumed rapist will redeem him but in a movie that’s main theme is violence begeting violence the movie’s ending is telling us he is probably as lost as

“The racist cop has a change of heart and suddenly I’m supposed to like this character and the fact he wants to punish a bad rapist????”

The whole thing has been so rushed. 8 was written as 7 was been filmed and now 9 was written as 8 was been filmed. Far from ideal writing a sequel when you haven’t actually seen what came before.

Nothing wrong with JJ’s comments. But the articles suggestion that if you have a problem with Leia’s spacewalk then it is sexist, yeah that is pretty reductive and in no way helpful.

Why do you say “us” so often? Who do you think you are speaking for? Nerds? Black people? Everyone at Io9?

I think it’s all a bit of a missed opportunity. How many film series get a guaranteed three episodes? Even two? Disney really rushed these films out after making the Lucasfilm deal. They could have sat down with Abrams or whoever and mapped out a epic, cohesive story, but now I get a sense that each film’s

It would kinda undercut the entire point theme and message of the movie if it was a lie.

No the problem is that the reality of today’s culture is that things cant die and be left alone. Why do we need more Alien? Why do we need and Alien Universe? The problem with Prometheus, and Covenant, beyond the fact they exist is the universe of Alien is not the perfect place to jam in big existential questions that

Yes that’s about it. For some reason a huge amount of attention is been projected at the weird fringe element who are freaking out and starting online petitions etc... over it. So much so that anyone with a minor criticism over the movie now has to go to great care to praise some aspect of film and say something along

“Star Wars should be about way more than the Skywalkers and their friends.”

Great article and I agree with a lot of it. Although I don’t feel that I’ve had almost 40 years of Star Wars tailor made for me, quite the opposite, TLJ probably felt closest to that in some ways.

Or comments from people who loved the film demeaning those who didn’t like it and telling them their opinions are whiny and don’t matter. That really helps too! Internet discourse for the win!

It was “dumb” because it was the last of the 3 very very important macguffins the villain needed and the heroes just let it get out of their site and villain mac villain face was just able to go yoink while nobody was looking. An edit to him grabbing it would have just attracted attention to the slackness of our heros

“Built-in fanbase”!? I think you mean fanbase they built-up over the course of many years with movies that people loved with characters people cared for? If you could try not to sound quite so condescending that would be great.

Really? Because I’m hearing the name “Ardent” is going to be the next domino to fall with regard to sexual assault accusations. That’s just what I’m hearing. Lot’s of bad, depraved, things swirling around the name “Ardent”.

Oh I agree. It’s others (even people at Jezebel) who seem to be confused on that matter.

It was rumormongering. NYT did journalism. There is a difference and posting unsubstantiated rumors is not journalism.

Most of these people were not defending CK but criticizing Jezebel’s journalistic standards. These criticisms are still valid. Well done on the NYT for doing the work properly and with integrity.
