I won’t disagree with that, but as others have stated, that was never what Embrace/Extend/Extinguish has meant. It was always a description of Microsoft moving in to dominate a sector, like the way they muscled out Netscape (for example).

Because of ridiculous traffic and overinflated housing prices, though, not because it’s southern/redneck/racist/whatever.

I actually like Dulles Airport for the most part. It’ll be even better once they finally finish the Metrorail extension to it (which should be soon? If it hasn’t opened already). Hartsfield-Jackson in Atlanta though, I’d be willing to start a March to the Sea from.

Ironically, Northern Virginia today is the least southern part of the entire state. It’s pretty much a giant suburb of Washington DC, and pretty solidly blue. NoVA along with the Richmond and Norfolk/Hampton Roads areas are essentially the reason that Virginia is Purple trending Blue (or arguably outright Blue) now. 

What I’d be interested to see is something of a greater societal reckoning with what the norms of acceptable public behavior should be, both for ‘celebrities’ as well as for average people. Part of the issue, I think, is that the public sphere is so much greater than it used to be. Maybe instead of your small town…
