It did shift in tone. I'd watch the earlier seasons for fun, the later seasons for their emotional depth and drama.

Shame. Louie was a big influence on me in my younger years…. three years ago, to be exact.
Absolutely wonderful analysis. Never thought of the music dynamics analogy.
'Excuse me? Hello?'
Also in addition to what muscles pointed out, the brownness of the hot dog is similar to the shit. If youve broken your hold on eating shit then something with similar color is problematic.
One of the later episodes, rest and ricklaxation, seems to be toying with this trope. Rick is screaming and on the verge of a breakdown, while Morty is crying. Both of them look incredibly beaten and tired. I'm excited to see how and when their adventures will finally catch up with them.
I understand her unlikability stems from her loving her father way too much, so I forgive her. But it's sad to see the extent of her being led on by Rick.
Ultraviolent. Just need classical music now.
Where the hell is this base such that they're five minutes away from the therapy place? It's hinted that it's foreign, too!
Rick really did a number on her. It's like that episode where Bojack Horseman receives therapy from the Gazette lady and ultimately doesn't realize how that could be helpful. Beth is doomed to rationalize Rick because of his intelligence and because of her fear of him leaving her, which she assumes was partly her…
Neither did I, but perhaps Beth was just acting out.
I was wondering what that scene in the car represented. I'm glad they so clearly showed the disconnect Beth suffers from due to Rick, in how she dismisses the therapy as he does and how she accepts his lazy apology.
AGHHHHHHH!
It was hotline Miami and I loved it. Dear God.
It does seem wildly indulgent… but they seem to get away with it. I wanted to focus on the therapy more; I enjoyed the peeling of the layers.
Oh yeah the rat part was so deliciously violent I had a giddy smile on my face.
What, hearing PICKLE RICK didn't make you fall in love instantly?
Beth, damn.
ARE YOU SAYING I DON'T HAVE TO CRY EVERY TIME THEY MISPRONOUNCE MY NAME AT STARBUCKS, WHICH THEY ALWAYS DO?
Where were you when you heard you were going back to DONE KIRK?
