This is now the second prestige television show in the past year to use “My echo, my shadow and me” by the Ink Spots (the first being Better Call Saul)

Also, Veidt’s play is awfully written, and you’d think Veidt, beings the smartest man in the world, could write something better. This play could have easily been written by Doctor Manhattan though, someone who appears human but is unable to relate to them.

The way they styled the Minutemen TV show after the Snyder film felt like both a nod and a sly dig. Snyder’s film has been criticized for glorifying violence and misunderstanding the source material, which is what it appears the TV show is doing. I don’t necessarily agree with that assessment, but it’s very clever.

Yeah this is an interesting one. I found it more impressive as a tightrope walk than an actual comedy special (though there were still some points that really made me laugh). All stand-up is calculated, but you’re more conscious of it when it’s done in the wake of a controversy. And it puts you even more on edge when

Ok, I thought I was going insane. I just rewatched this movie last night, coincidently, after watching Toy Story 4. And I could have sworn there was a blooper where Stinky Pete promises the Barbies a role in Toy Story 3.

I don’t have anything insightful to say other than the music is just ridiculously good, and there’s so much of it. I’ve enjoyed some modern musicals like, say, La La Land quite a bit, but we got relatively few songs. The Sound of Music’s  soundtrack is massive, and every tune is dense and gorgeous and distinct from

Huh. I’m not the biggest Snyder fan in the world (I’ve only seen his super hero movies, all of which I’d describe as “really ambitious and great to look at while being very flawed”) but as someone who avoided this movie for years on principle alone...I ended up thinking it wasn’t a pretty incredible adaptation.

I guess it’s seen as a little passé to talk about Serial, but man, can we talk about how ridiculously good this season is? I think it’s one of the most fascinating looks at the justice system we’ve ever had.

And I just love his cheesy Superman line at the end of it: “I hope this doesn’t scare you away from airplanes. Statistically speaking it’s still the safest form of travel.” (Something like that)

Yeah I always walk away from it so completely unsure of what the ultimate goal of this movie was. Was it to make an anachronistic finale to the Reeves-era films? Because you don’t get the sense that Reeves would have left earth for YEARS, and anyway if this is a sequel to Superman 2, how exactly do cellphones exist? Wa

Nah, I disagree with that read. I mean, I’ll never defend Snyder as a person, but I love Man of Steel, and have never agreed with the objectivist readings. MoS is an immigrant story, primarily. Clark is torn between two worlds, unsure of who he really is. His parents know that the world will reject him for his

I maintain that the airplane rescue is the finest Superman setpiece we’ve ever had. But the rest of the movie really is a snooze fest, if occasionally fun.

I enjoy MGS4’s story because of and in spite of its insanity. It’s probably the most unabashedly Kojima thing Kojima has done. I don’t play MGS for it’s grounded narratives, I play for the madness of it all. So I think if you allow yourself to laugh at it, it’s a good time.

I think people complaining about story in MGSV are kind of missing the point. To have a sprawling, non-linear, player-driven experience like BOTW, you can’t have the same kind of rigid, structured storytelling that the previous games had. Because the narrative isn’t the point: the player, the stories they’re able to

Famously, the best way to determine whether a show is good is to skip around and see where it goes. Jokes don’t rely on context or pacing so you definitely gave it a fair shake.

I’m totally not getting the critical reviews of this show. Not every joke in the pilot lands, but the show becomes Futurama-level good by the end of the season. And I think the pilot is like...really good? The characters are all super strong, the complete absurdity of the Elf world and Elfo’s plight, and there’s a lot

Oh boy. What has the AV Club comments section become? It used to be a place where people, generally, read and understood things; where good discussions took place. It’s disheartening to see what the Kinja generation brought with it. This article was insightful, well-written and timely. So naturally the majority of the

WarioWare Twisted is still a top 5 favorite game of all time, for me. This series is just one of those wonderful bursts of imagination that reminds you of how wholly unique video games can be. It couldn’t exist in any other medium.

Nah. There isn’t that much filler (certainly some, but not “most”) and the filler is *usually* fun in its own right. The episode where Hurley finds being the Dharma van doesn’t move the plot forward, but it’s an all time favorite. The fact that they had time to play with meant that they could always develop the

Even as it was airing, Damon and Carlton consistently said in interviews that they were looking forward to people being able to binge it on DVD or streaming services. They always viewed it in those terms, even if it couldn’t be that right away.
