To be fair, Monster Hunter XX is going to have 3DS/Switch crossplay, and with Pokemon Bank it’s not gonna be hard to transfer your stuff over. I mean, the entire point of Bank was to make sure your collection was future proofed against that sort of thing.

Stars (the theoretical third entry to Sun/Moon) has been rumored for Switch for a long while now. 8 minutes is plenty for a short blurb about the history of the franchise, Pokemon has always been excited about new systems, yadda yadda, and then a short reveal trailer.

It’s a silly argument, really. 3DS launched with a bunch of titles and the most appealing on for me on day 1 was a fairly lousy Ridge Racer game. That had such a lousy first six months Nintendo had to slash the price so deep that early adopters got 20 VC games as an apology. 3DS ended up as a complete juggernaut.
