Based on movies and for instance the above fashion illustration, pretty much yes. I think the main thing was that shirt and ties were always worn under a suit jacket, vest/waistcoat, or cardigan. I haven't seen an extant tie myself but they either had to be a lot shorter, or were tied with much more complicated knots.

Yes another vote for baking soda face scrub. Sometimes I do this all natural routine. Make a mask of natural honey. Rinse. Wash with baking soda. Moisturize with coconut oil. All 3 are so gentle!
