That TDI offroader sounds pretty cool. I always liked the look of the lift kits I saw sometimes on MKIV golfs, I imagine the MK5 would be even better.

My 300hp XT CAN spin all 4 tires in the rain if I force it to, but yeah even with open diffs it’ll pull pretty hard in the wet. My friend’s turbo saab is modded to similar power, but will spin its front wheels through first and second even with good tires. AWD isn’t just a myth for brochures and commercials
Well that was the point in the first half of the comment, the second half seemed to move towards not understanding why anyone would choose AWD. ‘AWD is a nice feature on slick surfaces’... ‘I get why people think it makes their cars more capable. Does it? I mean... sorta’
Does it? I mean... sorta.
Ugh I hate it. Looks like a mustang with an allergic reaction. 0/10 not healthy
I actually saw one the other day for the first time driving through my tiny rural upstate NY. I’m not sure what it was doing here, but the exhaust sounded nice as it went past. Still the only one I’ve ever seen on the road
While I’ve always liked cars and things that go fast, I honestly never had anything more than a passing interest in a racing series until I found this site in 2013. Before then racing just seemed like a thing done by super wealthy people in exotic sounding places far away.
It does seem odd from the perspective of the current Impreza/WRX being much larger (almost 2 feet longer I think?) than the Yaris.
Subaru and Toyota are reportedly working together on a shared WRX platform that could potentially have connections to the Yaris WRC
If you read the attached link, it had a parachute
I made more or less this same point in a comment on the Morning Shift article, and also found it frustrating when I looked for the numbers of passenger car emissions vs freight and air.
Are those lifetime warranties from dealers any good?
1rst gear: This has nothing to do with the environment.
I’d be willing to bet that going WOT at low RPMs while the engine is still lugging (hard on bearings) and doing lots of high RPM donuts (oil starvation) blows up just as many Subarus as redlining. And by redlining I mean at or above the redline. The EJ25 is far from a perfect motor, but I don’t think it’s made of…
Yeah but it’s about 57cm longer then the fiesta, which is the size of cars in the WRC. That’s almost 2 feet longer!
Me too
My nickname as a kid was Justy, and as a big Subaru fan I’ve always wanted to find an ‘88 model from the year I was born. Up here they’ve all turned into piles of iron oxide though - I think I’ve seen maybe 2 in the last 5 years
Good point, although I have to imagine the EJ25 isn’t long for this world. And as much as I’ll miss it, I have to say it’s probably time considering I’ve got the same short block in my 14 year old EJ255 as the current STI
Exactly. I mean my post was mostly a joke, as I don’t see Subaru going back to WRC any time soon unless perhaps there is an electric or at least hybrid class and the boxer motor thing no longer matters. That said, even if we ignored that there is no way the current Impreza chassis works in WRC, it’d be like that giant…
Psh, that’s just an Impreza on stilts. Not really the fit/yaris size I’d imagine a new Justy would be. Plus the stats I saw on OPPO yesterday showed a year to date change of over 21% decrease in sales. I like the crosstrek and it certainly has sold like hotcakes in the past, but I wouldn’t exactly call it a Justy
