It’s posts like this that remind me there is a big gulf between the Jalopnik front page and Oppositelock. The former owner/builder of this creation posts on Oppo and I recognized it immediately... but judging by the comments I’m one of only like 3 people posting here that knew that.

As I am not an errant drone, this thing is not a nightmare to me

I’ve DD a 2005 outback xt manual for the past 3 years, driven a 2004 WRX in anger on gravel, and have had 2 other Subarus besides. I’ve also had a GTI and 2 old BMWs and have spent plenty of time driving all of them on both gravel and snow and ice where traction is limited. I actually DO understand exactly what you’re

No you didn’t say lift off oversteer only occurs on AWD cars, but I never claimed you did either. You DID however say ‘lift off oversteer is way more sensitive in AWD than in RWD however’ which is, at best, incomplete.

With all due respect, what you just said is nonsense. A car’s tendency to lift off oversteer has nothing to do with the driven wheels and everything to do with suspension setup and weight distribution. 911s and MR2s are known for snap oversteer despite being RWD, and most regular subarus understeer like a pig unless

Sort of. You’re right that lift off oversteer was a factor here and the driver handled it wrong. Lift off oversteer is a thing in all cars regardless of the driven wheels though... and putting the clutch in will be better than engine braking, sure... but it’s not a cure-all for oversteer either. Best case would

But so much wheel! :(

what is car?

Yes. If I remember correctly the later (and more common) model has the 7 bladed aperture and the thorium coating, while the earlier 8 bladed model doesn’t. The 8 bladed model is supposed to be superior in sharpness, but I still like my 7 bladed radioactive lens for how it renders things, and for the story.

Mmm, Thorium. I believe you have the Thorium coated Takumar 50, as do I. One of my favorite lenses, and the radiation isn’t really a problem a lens cap can’t handle in that case. I wouldn’t want to have a garage over tons of the stuff though!

The first time I saw an f40 it was street parked, albeit in Florence Italy and 14 years ago so it wasn’t worth as much then. Still made a huge impression on me wedged in between small European hatchbacks and a pile of vespas

Flew out of Stewart airport in ny, 2.5 hour drive from home. Landed in Dublin. Had a rental car... I don’t do buses if I can help it. Honestly it wasn’t bad, but like I said it was a brand new (like... a month old) airplane and the route from Stewart to Dublin was brand new too. Your mileage may (and apparently has)

My wife and I flew Norwegian to Ireland last year... definitely bare bones but it was only $300 round trip and a 6.5 hour direct flight on a brand new plane. I don’t really get the hate, I’ve definitely flown worse.

Thanks for doing the math on that... I was unscientifically calculating in my head compared to my 22mpg Outback and was thinking it wasn’t that far off. I think electric cars are cool and all, but that doesn’t actually seem like a ton of savings for all the range anxiety and dealing with people knocking on your

I have an ‘05 (didn’t buy it new - I was 17 then) but it’s the most well rounded and practical car I’ve owned. I’d totally like to upgrade to an ‘09 if I could find one

I’m not anti-electric car by any means, but I also live where it is cold and snowy for 5 months of the year. I like the fact that even when it’s -17 f out or whatever I can start my car and know it will get me to work. I think self driving cars are cool in concept, but I also really like being able to get somewhere

Well that’s just it. I don’t have “house shoes” as much as I have those ll bean moccasin slippers. They work great in the house, but I don’t have a garage so wearing them out of the house even if I don’t leave the car still means wearing them outside on the dirty ground for a while... which breaks the whole concept of

Well, this beats the pizza take at least..... Hold up. House shoes?

Childish as it may be, I’m right there with you. My outback sounds pretty much the same after doing the exhaust a year ago... I thought I’d be tired of it by now but nope

Somebody with more time than me should make the grey shirt guy/car hitting the other car into a KINJA’D gif
