One solution I could see is an alternative to car ownership. Have kind of a permanent car sharing/rental network. You drive to the limit of your electric car, hit a car charging/exchanging depot, plug in your car, grab your gear and hop into a different, charged car.

We still have to remember the source of electricity we use for said EV’s. Mass uptake of EV’s will put pressure on the power grid, and with the exception of Hydro and Nuclear, other green technology isn’t scale-able at that level yet.

Unfortunately, unless the economy goes tits up before then, you’re in for a rude awakening.

I honestly think the whole introduction of Dragons is the weakest part of this story overall. I know its a integral plot point and all, but the story is just so much better when its focusing on the political intrigue and human drama.
