Being between the frame doesn't guarantee isolation from abuse happening in the bed. I think that there's a reason Rivian's battery pack ends about right where the bed begins. Their truck conveniently has a pretty short bed

I’ve been thinking about pickups recently. It seems to me that the bed area would be off limits, because of danger to the battery pack. That leaves you with the cab area, which isn’t the largest. A plug-in pickup would certainly be a good start
Nearly perfect rear three quarters, entirely forgettable front end. Shame that they never gave the grille another shot
I almost feel like this form works well with BEV technology. Line the floor with batteries, cram the compact motors in the rear and front, and use the long hood as a frunk. Once we drop ICEs and mechanical drivetrains, form gains freedom from a lack of functional requirements
I’m waiting for the car industry to go full circle: once crossovers kill everything else in the market, we’ll see a hard shift in desire for ludicrously incapable, but glorious, design-first automobiles. Bring back the OG long hoods!
“Since post-Dieselgate Volkswagen is probably still keen to leverage any opportunity to be associated with fun-loving hippies again instead of corporate greed and industrial-scale fraud”
How many miles of EV range? This sounds great
Jet lag fueled comment reply strikes again
My thoughts exactly. Couldn't possibly spend the wrong side of halfway to 10k on a car with that transmission
After reading this article, I got interested and checked autotrader. Holy cow, people want 30k for these things with 125k+ miles. Maybe I’m just ignorant, but that seems like a lot of dough for a lot of miles on a car that’s probably feeling all of those miles
My parent's hybrid gets significantly worse MPG when the battery needs to be charged, so I see this as relatively useful. Would be much more useful if, when the battery is already full, climate control kicks in to keep things room temp in the winter or summer
Isn’t this what the rumored Barracuda was supposed to have satisfied? I wish that I knew what was planned and how far they got
Am I the only one wondering if the "Current Biology" journal was a pun or not?
Yea man, leading through action is overrated. America has never done it before, and we sure as hell shouldn’t do it now. It's not like we were in global pact to address this or anything, where every country had signed up to cooperate
2nd gear: thank goodness someone else out there wants to leave behind a polluted atmosphere for the children of the world to live in. I was thinking that I must be the only one. If it's hard, it's not worth doing. Am I right?
So, it was actually decent, or did I interpret the title incorrectly?
This seems like the most manageable of projects that you've pared about in a while. Unfortunately, there seems to be plenty of room for unknown unknowns. Good luck! I hope that your transmission rebuild is spot on, and the engine doesn't require more than you think
Personally, I'm motivated to drop a manual in anything. It never doesn't make sense
Fast back hatch ftw
It’s really not that much of a burden on Tesla. They can easily account for how much this will cost them, and it's not like it'll actually be for life. It'll be for how long the original owner has the Model S. Sure, some people will cling to them, but I'm sure that the average ownership will be much less than ten years
