Agreed. I had a lot of issues with the execution of The Last Jedi. I liked the Rey/Luke stuff, I liked some of the character ideas in the broad strokes (Rose idolizing Finn as a hero when he was still kind of a coward, Poe’s inability to think strategically). Canto Bight annoyed me (did they have to make it look

I think the concept of the series itself is fan service, even though the execution differed. ‘Let’s go to the original trilogy, which everyone loves, and take the baddest looking motherfucker and the coolest, funnest character and have virtual copies of them be partners. And make one of them cute.’

Cohesive vision overseeing the films is why the Prequel trilogy is so awful. George was far less cohesive in the OT, including listening to Marcia who from the sounds of what she contributed, kept the movie human and saved the original movie, and letting directors and writers do their thing while he went to take care

I think the point is that TLJ is able to the story it wants while building on what came before instead of knocking stuff down like Rise does.

The sequels looked so much better - more lived in, more practical effects, more “dirt”. And the writing and acting was a million times better. The prequels just look ... glossy and very CGI.

You’re right, of course. Lucas didn’t have a plan (or more accurately, he had several different ideas for follow-ups to Ep 4, including the low-budget, Han Solo-less one that turned into the novel Splinter of the Mind’s Eye).
That said, going into a planned movie trilogy with decades of history behind it is a whole

A Star is Burns did a Simpsons crossover (much) better than the Family Guy crossover

The Archer/Bob’s Burgers crossover is still one of my favorites. It made sense in a lot of ways, and while Bob’s only factored in at the beginning and end, it played into the sensibilities of both series pretty damn well.

Oh God, yes! The Dead Zone seems so forgotten sometimes and it’s so perfectly crafted. I cry like a baby at the end, when she’s at his grave. And just like King predicted the incel in Harold, he predicted Covfefe in Greg Stillson.

Jacob Wohl is dumb enough that he’d most likely commit another federal crime out of sheer incompetence about two days after a pardon, anyway.

As a DC fan, I would love nothing more if Snyder and his entire cult piss off forever. Shazam is the kind of thing we deserve, aka, stuff that has absolutely none of Snyder's fingerprints on it.

HBO original programming has a legacy to uphold, the decidedly un-Snyder Watchmen just won awards. They don’t want that legacy to be tarnished by Snyder’s dreck.

From what I’ve read, once the WB capitulated to the Synder fans who were clamoring for the Snyder cut, they lost control of the project. So budget overruns, no control over length, content, etc. The WB is being held hostage by Snyder’s online army of trolls and just letting him do whatever.

First they came for the violent agitators but I said nothing because I was not a violent agitator.

Oh Jesus, don’t encourage them. It’s already been hard enough to escape this fucking movie, that’s exactly the sort of thing they’d try.

Yeah, I’ve been looking forward to the Final Cut-style book on that since it came out. Although I suspect it might never come.

yah one thing that bothered me about Release the Synder cut cry was the notion, that frankly Synder leaned in to, was that there was just a complete and finished movie sitting in a can (he literally posted a picture of film cans!). Synder’s movie was always unfinished.

“That’s a pretty lousy message.”

So, the fact they're doing reshoots really does confirm that the claims The Snyder Cut existed in a complete form all this time were just absolutely lies, hey.
