I think the overall point we should be taking from this is that they are two very different groups of people, in very different circumstances and trying to discount the African American experience while laying it next to the Irish one is entirely pointless.

Appropriation is nonsense. Wanting to celebrate another culture by partaking in their customs is something to strive for, not something that we should fight against.
