They wouldn’t be doing something illegal! That’s the whole point. The argument is for decriminalizing sex work.

Then you should look at Sweden.

That’s exactly what it means.

It’s not disingenuous. They believe prostitution should not be a criminal offense and that sex workers should get benefits, health care, etcetera. They do not believe people should be able to buy sex, because that entails, in 99 cases out of 100, the exploitation of an oppressed and disadvantaged person. Sure, some

Bullshit. She specifically makes mention of things like prostitutes being arrested for having condoms. The article is deliberately creating the impression that the signatories want sex work itself to be illegal.

You are, in a sense. I don’t mean that as an insult. The signatories are proponents of the ‘Nordic Model’, which criminalizes purchasing sex and pimping women, but not the act of selling sex itself. This doesn’t merely mean women won’t be charged. It means they are legal workers entitled to benefits, etcetera.

Then it’s a good thing this petition, which has been completely misrepresented by this article, was not written by celebrities, but rather by human rights authorities, former sex workers and medical professionals.

Great. Will you now correct the utter falsehood of what you assert in the article?

How so? Sex work should be decriminilzed. Trafficking in women shouldn’t. What’s Orwellian about that?

It is not a technicality. Decriminalizing sex work (which, again, is exactly what this petition calls for) means sex workers can get benefits and will not be harassed by law enforcement, etcetera. You don’t have to agree with the Nordic model, but technicality my ass.

Which is why nobody is saying that. Read the petition. It is pro decriminalization and has been written and signed by hundreds of former sex workers, doctors and human rights authorities. This article, for reasons that are unclear, is lying.

Perhaps you should have actually read the text, which blatantly states the following:

Nobody is opposing decriminalization, and certainly not the signatories of this petition, which blatantly states they are PRO decriminalization. This article is a total lie. Read the petition, which they conveniently did not link to, here: https://www.change.org/p/amnesty-inte…

So do I. ...And yet it will not happen.

The Nordic model has it’s devotees and detractors, and I would welcome a discussion of both perspectives. That does not change that this article is factually WRONG.

Read the actual petition. It’s not just celebrities. It is authorities on the sex trade, human rights experts, doctors and sex workers themselves who have devised this petition and signed it. It is a blatantly pro decriminalization petition too, despite what this article says. What it is opposing is the

Read the goddamned petition. She was right to sign it and you should sign it too. It’s pro decriminalization and this article is a total fabrication.

Maybe you should actually read the petition. It is not opposed to decriminalizing sex work. It is blatantly FOR decriminalizing it. This article is click-bait garbage. Amnesty are getting this absolutely wrong.

Yes they fucking signed it. Of course they did! Read the goddamned petition and don’t be fooled by this lying click-bait journalism. It’s a petition literally stating that sex work should be decriminalized. It is blatantly PRO decriminalization.
