If you agree that it morphed into neo paganism and that passed down to today, then how does it not have “pagan roots.” Roots can mean sources of origination in history, not just one single source of when it first began.

I’m not entirely sure what your comment means / which one you are replying to because I don’t know if anyone here is saying that? No one is saying that the whole religion is bogus, but we’re *not* going to call certain practices respectful to women. If I misunderstood you, apologies in advance, there has been a lot of

I never said they invented it. I used the word “roots” because there are histories of people subscribing to pagan religion, which tarot has been a part of, and that’s how it has passed down onto the tarot we are familiar with today. I feel like you are not actually curious, but trying to discredit people who believe

And to top that, you even used the line that every racist uses: “this is according to my experience.” Well, according to my experience, people like you are racist, sexist, and homophobic. It has nothing to do with religion, you are just a horrible person.

Don’t answer that person. They’re just a racist/sexist who tries to justify everything under religion and calls anyone who disagrees “islamophobic.”

LOLOLOLOLL I’m dead this just invalidated everything you tried to say

What I am saying is that for many religions, a woman prophet or a goddess is a minority and not a majority, and if there is any, it is used to say “What about this one person out of like 500? That means this must not be sexist at ALL.” I think Hindu religion is a bit different, also as to sexism, which is great.

I agree. I had to take like 5 theology classes in one semester and it really sounded like people wanted to tack on parts “just to clarify that women were not good,” mostly to strengthen patriarchy. Man, I got so tired of hearing the same excuses about how it’s “not sexist because this passage was also kind of not

I mean, you have been going around this entire thread trying to defend a very sexist tradition saying that it’s actually not that bad because it’s not that hot, men have garbs that are similar too, etc. Unless you are a burka wearing woman by choice, I don’t know if it’s very convincing of you to say that. You can

Yeah okay and according to your logic, you are also a racist because you just disagreed with an Asian person. *eyeroll*

No, you haven’t. You just sound like someone trying to excuse sexism under the guise of religion to me.

Um, yes, we have the right to judge anything when something is sexist and racist. You don’t get a pass just because you are a religion. You can’t just hide under “cultural and religious values.” It’s like if I created my own religion that said women are forbidden to teach because they are not as good as men (like so

I’ve heard this argument so many times in my theology class, but it doesn’t explain why the “modest clothing” for men seems to be so much more optional and loose than it is for women, whose entire body seems to be represented as inconvenient and “immodest.” Why don’t men cover their hairs, ankles, and legs too?

I know! And if bodies are so inconvenient and you have to cover it up to be “modest,” why just women? Why won’t all men wear headdresses too? And those scandalous male ankles, why aren’t they covered up?

Also, I’m all for people wearing whatever they want - burka, tank tops, jeans, everything they want. But please stop framing “women covering up” as “MODESTY.” It’s problematic to think that “being modest” is equivalent to covering up your body, or anything to do with sexuality and appearances. People can wear whatever

That’s why I respect people having beliefs and personal relationship with God, but always point out that it is *not* an effing coincidence that their supposed words and scripts all want to control what women do with their bodies. Oh, okay, so it so just ~happened~ that ALL the prophets and COOL PEOPLE were men.

You can respect a religion for its sake and still discuss certain practices that make it sexist or racist. It’s not black and white.

It’s really odd to me that these things happen and some people think feminists shouldn’t be allowed to discuss how this is sexist. You can’t excuse sexism, racism, and homophobia under the guise of “culture” or “religion.”

While that the meaning of the word pagan does root from “not Christian,” it did historically come to represent non-traditional practices of religion such as Wicca, Tarot, Astrology, and so on. People did identify as such to revolt against Christianity, and some religions they practiced based on that were actually
