I read somewhere that although participation in organized religion is down and continues to sink, the percentage of Americans who “believe in God” is around 80% (a 2022 Gallup poll has it at 81%, noting the drop from 91% since 2011).

It’s shocking/scary how few atheists there are in government (both parties) as well as how difficult it is to get elected without spouting off about your God/faith (in public, at least)
