Rap is the dominant music genre in the US right now. It can survive a teenage singer poking at some of the stuff where the rappers are clearly putting on a role (talking about all their women, guns, etc, but then they finish the song and music video and go back to whatever normal day-to-day life is for a rich rapper).

but she isn’t “reducing rap” she is discussing how it is in some songs by people she knows, and thats how she knows they are lying. This seems to be more of a hit piece than genuine. saying that some songs in any genre have a problematic element is not reducing the entire genre.

You know that her “look” is her “look” because she was so traumatized by adult men sexualizing her teenage body that she took to wearing oversized clothes and other ways of covering up/ not showing her real body to protect herself, right?

Y’know what? This is belittling for no good reason. Billie has talked at length about how crazy and potentially unsafe it can be for her to be in public, and also how worried she gets about contestant scrutiny and judgement. The Watchmen score was fucking awesome. I’m yet to listen to Vol.3 but absolutely loved the first two and I’ve had it on while I’ve been writing at work. It’s great stuff.

Seriously, the Watchmen score has been on in my office non-stop, and brilliant as though I understand it to be, the Social Network’s has never really tracked with me. I think honestly that this was just a need on the part of the writer to give themselves some edge.

If you hire Trent Reznor to score your movie, you showcase that. Otherwise, it’s like buying a brilliant piece of art and putting it in a dark corner in the guest bedroom. What’s the point?
