They may have the same firmware for multiple devices and the presence or lack of different pieces of hardware enable the other functions.

They could have the software/firmware to “run” as ventilators, I have to imagine there are actual hardware components that need to change too, in relation to a ventilator using higher pressures/lower vacuum than the biPAP machines.
