To be honest, I love UChicago. My experience as a PhD student is probably going to be different from that of the undergraduate population though. What will be the same, however, is that the academics and faculty are top-notched. The expectations are top-notched.

He certainly TRIES hard enough. But it is a wonder that he keeps managing to trip over/step on that miniscule appendage of his.

What does it say that I can’t rule out the fact that this person is sitting in an engineering job right now!

I get that. But then by this logic tigers, lions, leopards and panthers (and possibly snow leopards) are all panthers. Which is fine by me I guess.

After consulting with friends. I stopped thinking that it was something I had done wrong. I’m not perfect but as I have learned my craft I understand that some kids are just not ready (or perhaps even able).

I was cracking the fuck up when I read that. 

I was a lecturer at UChicago during my time as a graduate student. Many of my students were damn bright. Most were merely smart. That said, there were a few that made me wonder what I did wrong (one econ major in particular). When you are new to teaching you sometimes think it is YOUR fault. I guess what I am saying…

We are already seeing the outcome. Much of this realization is what drove 2016 and Brexit. To paraphrase, the worst is yet to come.

Don’t get caught with drugs and get shunted into the federal court system. Your ass will be grass. The disparities are unbelievable. I really wish I was able to hold onto Ofra Bikel’s documentary titled Snitch.
