I agree with your final conclusion, but I think the Tesla price drop is mostly because the early EV adopter market is reaching saturation. (also due to Elon/Twitter/Chaos, but I think it’s mainly market forces).

If categorizing your vehicle as “off-highway capable” means you can shoot for a lower fuel-mileage target and skip some pricey emissions controls, that’s a no-brainer decision for carmakers.

I love these JDM mini campers (especially the 4x4s) but if I was buying one now I’d be getting pretty nervous about the states cracking down on imported car registrations. The issues people are starting to have, especially with the Kei trucks is disheartening.
