Police are trained to shoot for center mass and to always shoot to kill. This is for several reasons, but the main one is handguns are wildly inaccurate so you have to aim for the biggest part.

They shoot to stop, generally by aiming for center mass. If the person dies in the process well that’s just an added bonus.

Yeah but A) people don’t know that and B) people who do know that can still be intimidated by the police. I imagine it’s fucking scary to have police threaten you straight after watching them kill someone.

Just saw this on CNN. Police are being praised for releasing this photo so quickly but I think it’s only because it seems to support their case. The guy does appear to be in a shooting pose but you can’t tell what, if anything, he has in his hands. Things happen in a split second so maybe they did thing he had…

I think that what is going on is that all of America is finally hearing about it. Trayvon Martin wasn’t killed by a cop, but I think the response to his death led to a shift in how the media covers violence against black people.
