As I said to another commenter, this car was still more expensive by a considerable margin than a brand new Z16 Chevelle. And it was probably a basket case.
$4500 in 1965 was a lot more than a Z16 Chevelle costed at the time. The modern-day equivalent of the Chevelle is the SS, so figure it as a a $50K+ car these days.
