Way more lose than break even or even make a profit. Unfortunately.

"the olympic spend also has direct effects on creating jobs, generating business, etc."

Actually it's not boring, it's just that most people don't have the basic understanding as to "why".

The reason it has more appeal is that the host countries, corporations of the "Olympic Family" and the IOC are all spending billions in advertising the circus for years. If NASA would have 1/10th of the advertising budget that the IOC has people would be way more excited about it.

The problem is that the Olympics are just a giant business funded in no small part by tax payers.

I have to wonder if that doesn't have more to do with the EU?

Germany may not like violence as entertainment, but at least people can fuck on TV and no letter writing campaign will happen.

Touche.

Bad idea. The whole thing would be out of balance and next thing you know Hoffa's body would come flying through the air (in pieces).

Do you know how far behind Vancouver / BC is on that front compared to ON/QC?

I know there's a general sense that it's "evil foreign money", but honestly I think this isn't quite true. It seems to me more likely that people here do what they have already done: Get rich off of the land. The whole real-estate as a driving force for Vancouver isn't anything new really, it goes all the way back to

I buy the dollar to some degree, but it seems that most businesses aren't leaving Canada, rather they are leaving BC for Ontario and Quebec.

Funnily enough two demographics that isn't really known for their social graces.

Vancouver is f'ed.

I think the reason why they started doing is (and it pisses me off too) is two fold:

I really wish SyFy would stop with this BS of "splitting" seasons. If you have to wait a year between "halfs" it's not really a season anymore.

I guess Kickstarter could work. A corporation would need to be set up which then uses Kickstarter for funding and a certain amount gives you a certain number of "shares" in the new corporation.

Sorry, but that's not about Geek culture. The internet is pretty mainstream and I bet you the majority of people who comment these kinds of things are not geeks and would never identify as some.

I think there is a major difference between the Phantom and the Ouya.

Here's another idea: Have the Government do it's job and educate it's citizens, then we don't need to regulate industries for all the BS they are pushing.
